William Louis Snook, 94, formerly of
South Portland died Sept. 19, 2007, in Eustis, Fla.
William was
born in Yeagertown, Pa., Sept. 13, 1913, the son of Jefferson and Doris
Webber Snook. He was educated in Portland schools and a graduate of Portland
High School where he was prominent in athletics. He served as Field Executive
for the Pine Tree Council, Boy Scouts of America. U.S. Navy veteran of
World War II and the Korean conflict.
William was
the owner of Legion Square Florist and Watch Repair Service in South Portland,
until his retirement. He was a member of the First Congregational Church
in South Portland; director of Chancel Choir for 20 years; Past President
of Eskimo Club of same church; Past President of the South Portland Public
Health Nursing Association; served as South Portland Civil Defense Director
for 13 years; past member of the Maine Football Officials Association;
member of Stewart P. Morrill Post 35 of the American Legion; member of
Sampson WWII Navy Vets; life member of Thornton Heights Lions Club, and
Past President of South Portland Lions Club. He was also Past District
Governor, District 41L Lions International and Past President of New England
Council of Governors, Lions International. He moved to Leesburg, Fla.,
in 1975.
He was predeceased
by his wife, Anne Dyer Snook in 1991; and a grandson, Keith Danie, in 1980.
He leaves a daughter, Patricia S. Danie, Leesburg, Fla.; two grandsons,
Mark S. Danie of Barrington, N.H., and Kevin A. Danie of Palo Alto, Calif.;
and four great-grandchildren.

by Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland. A graveside service
conducted by the Rev. Dr. John McCall will be held 10 a.m., Oct. 13, 2007,
at Evergreen Cemetery, Portland.
