Lion Harlow Powers

I am very sorry to bring you the news that Lion Harlow Powers passed away yesterday.

Lion Harlow was a member of the Hartland - St. Albans Lions Club, Past President and Past Zone Chairman.  He was nominated to run for Vice District Governor for the year 2005-2006 but vithdrew due to health issues. About two years ago, PDG John Youney and I had the pleasure  of presenting Lion Harlow with the first Melvin Jones Fellowship awarded by the Hartland - St. Albans Club.

Lion Harlow was the Lion's Lion. He put his all into his love if Lionism and was very unhappy that his declining health forced him to curtail his work.

Ellie and I visited Harlow at Sebasticook Valley Hospital on Thursday.  His son Randy, of Dallas, Texas and his daughter Cathy of the Carolinas were there. Harlow's wife, Ruth, had a stroke last year and is being treated at Sanfield Manor Rehab and Nursing Home in Hartland.

The service for Lion Harlow Powers will be on Thursday February 7, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. at the Hartland Community Center.  This facility is at the Hartland Consolidated School, located on Maine Route 151, about 1/4 mile south of Maine Route 43.

The shortest route for anyone coming north on I-95 is to exit at Pittsfield,  turn right at end of ramp, then about one mile to intersection with Rt 152. Rt 152 north about six miles to Hartland.  Rt 152 crosses US Route 2 at a very hazarous four-way at-grade intersection about 3 miles north of Pittsfield.

At Hartland, turn right on Routes 43,151, 152, 23, go about 1/4 mile, just beyond Bangor Savings Bank, turn right on Rt 151.  The school is on the left about 1/4 mile from the turn.

I will try to keep all advised as more information becomes available.
