Dear Fellow Lions and Friends, The Maine Lions District Convention is April 25-27 at the Samoset Resort in Rockport. This will be a very special Convention for me, because I am seeking the formal endorsement of the Lions of Maine to become your next International Director for 2009-2011. It would be great if you would be there to show your support for me at this convention. Once endorsed by the Maine Lions, I will start my official campaign throughout New England. Your involvement will make my send-off that much more meaningful. Formal voting for the next District Governor, Vice District Governor, and International Director will be held Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. Delegate cards will be required, and your Club Secretaries must send your list of delegates and alternates to the Cabinet Secretary by e-mail or regular mail. It will be a fun convention at this four-star resort on the coast of Maine. Friday will be our Meet & Greet with a Pizza Party and a magician for entertainment. Saturday will start off with a PJ Breakfast, and then educational and fun workshops with our District Speak-Out Contest in the afternoon followed by our fourth Cabinet Meeting and auction. The International Banquet will have guest speaker International Director Larry Johnson and of course hospitality rooms! Sunday will be the Necrology Service followed by voting for our DG, VDG and ID. Incoming Officers' Banquet will be Sunday afternoon. Rooms are still available at the Samoset, but you must act quickly. Please call 1-800-341-1650 and ask for the Lions rate of $109.00 per night. Cost of the hospitality package, which includes convention registration, meet & greet, admission to all events and workshops, and the two banquets, is only $79.95. The convention registration form is available online at http://mainelions.org/. I hope you will participate in the festivities being planned and enjoy the camaraderie of your fellow Lions. I would appreciate your support, and I hope you will endorse me as your International Director Candidate from the Great State of Maine. Yours in service,

MEET LION HARVEY BUZZELL, CANDIDATE FOR DISTRICT GOVERNOR At our District Convention at the Samoset, I am running for District Governor for the 2008-2009 District 41 Lions Year. I will be formally nominated from the floor and I hope you will consider voting for me as your next District Governor. I was born in Portland, Maine, graduated from South Portland High School and pursued a military career spanning 20 years in the Air Force and Army, retiring in 1977 as a Chief Warrant Officer 3. I spent the next 21 years as an Electronics Technician with an Electronics firm in Palo Alto, California. I retired and moved back to Maine in 2001. My involvement with the Lions Organization began in 2003 when I became a Charter Member of the Naples Lions Club. I will be eternally grateful to my friend Ray Bell, a member of the Falmouth Lions Club, for introducing me to Lions and being my sponsor. I have served as President of the Naples Lions Club for 2 years, as a member of the Naples Lions Club Board of Directors for 2 years, as District Historian for 2 years and am presently serving as Zone 6 Chairman. During my Presidency, the Naples Lions Club became a “Model Club” for Campaign Sight First II. I am also proud to have been selected as District 41-L “Rookie of the Year” and “Lion of the Year”. My Club recently honored me as a Melvin Jones Fellow, which was presented to me by Past International President Jimmy Ross at the New England Lions Council meeting this past February. Since joining the Lions, I have been involved in most District functions. I have also attended most Cabinet meetings, MERLO meetings and all District Conventions. I hope you will attend the District Convention at the Samoset and meet me if you have not already done so. DGDV Roger Blackstone and I will be hosting a Hospitality Room Saturday night for your enjoyment. Please take this opportunity to meet and get to know us. I understand the huge commitment that is required for the job of District Governor. I am retired and prepared to commit 100% of my time to serve the lions of Maine as your next District Governor if elected. Yours In Service Harvey E. Buzzell Jr. |
